Four Seasons has agreed to handover 44 of its care homes to rival operators as part of the restructuring of its leasehold portfolio.
The 44 homes, as well as 13 closed services, have been handed over to Roseberry, Harbour Healthcare, Belsize Healthcare and Barchester Healthcare.
Dr Claire Royston, Chief Medical Director, said: “The orderly migration of these homes to new operators will minimise the impact on residents, families and colleagues, and is in line with our priority to maintain the delivery of continuity of care for our residents.”
A Barchester spokesperson told CHP: “Barchester Healthcare is pleased to be working with Four Seasons Health Care Group as part of a process to migrate the services provided in 14 care homes. We are working closely with Four Seasons Healthcare to ensure this transition is seamless and the delivery of care is maintained to the highest standard. We look forward to welcoming staff, residents and relatives to the Barchester family.”
Four Seasons said it was making progress on “constructive discussions” with landlords on its remaining leasehold properties with the possibility of further transfers to new operators.
The care home provider withdrew rent from 135 leasehold properties in October as part of the discussions with landlords (see Concerns rise for residents after Four Seasons’ decision to withdraw rent).
A deal to sell 185 freehold properties to leading creditor H/2 Capital collapsed in October (see Fears for Four Seasons after deal to sell freehold properties collapses).
News of the handover of the 44 care homes came as the group also announced its was uniting its Four Seasons and brighterkind operations as one care home business. brighterkind CEO Jeremy Richardson has been appointed as CEO of the unified business.
Commenting yesterday, Martin Healy, Chairman of Four Seasons, said: “Today’s news is a positive step in providing leadership that will enable us to continue to drive our combined care home business forward towards a sustainable financial position and maintain our focus on providing continuity of care. Jeremy Richardson has led brighterkind with considerable success since its inception in 2014, and we look forward to working together over the coming months to build on the success that has already been achieved.”
