Progress celebrated at care home previously told to make urgent improvements

An HC-One care home has celebrated a far better inspection report after previously being told to make urgent improvements.

Springfield Bank in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian was rated Good in three areas and Adequate in two categories following an inspection in September.

The home, which provides care and accommodation for up to 70 elderly residents, had been issued with an improvement notice by the regulator in March 2018 (see HC-One care home issued with Improvement Notice).

Home manger, Lynne Rennie, told the Midlothian Advertiser: “It’s great to see the hard work of our team recognised by the Care Inspectorate, we are dedicated to be providing the kindest care for our residents.”

HC-One area director, Michael Doolin, added: “Well done to the team at Springfield Bank for achieving a pleasing result in their recent inspection.”

The home was rated Good for leadership, staffing and setting, and Adequate for support people’s wellbeing and planning care and support.

The regulator said “people were very complimentary about staff working in the service” and “the manager was visible in the home and everyone gave positive comments about her”. It added that the manager was “a good role model and was responsive to her team, giving direction and leadership”.

However, the Care Inspectorate added that work remained to be done on improving medication management and monitoring support for people with nutritional and skin needs.
