Council seeks bids for 12 Bupa homes in Wales

Powys County Council in mid-Wales is to seek a new care provider to take over 12 homes currently operated by Bupa.

The dozen homes were dropped from a takeover agreement with HC-One earlier this year following a legal challenge by the council (see EXCLUSIVE: HC-One drops ‘complex’ transfer of Bupa Powys homes).

Commenting on the tender, adult social care portfolio holder Cllr Stephen Hayes told the Powys County Times: “This will enable full control of the selection process but also provide assurance and confidence from Bupa that the company chosen is the right choice for our residents and also a seamless and swift transfer of the contract and management.”

The homes include: Llys Hafren in Welshpool, Plas Cae Crwn in Newtown, Llwyn Teg in Llanfyllin, Wylesfield in Llandrindod Wells, Prestmede in Presteigne, Maes-y-Wennol in Llanidloes, Brynhyfryd in Builth Wells and Cartref Dyfi in Machynlleth.

Bupa is contracted to run the homes until May 2019.

Care Inspectorate Wales is to be involved in the process and will help determine the requirements the new provider will be expected to meet.
