Romford care home offers success blueprint following second ‘outstanding’

The management of Ebury Court residential care home in Romford, Essex, has offered its blueprint for success after receiving their second CQC ‘outstanding’.

The home, which was inspected in September, was previously also rated outstanding in its last inspection which took place in December 2015.

Beverley Manzar, Registered Manager, told CHP: “If I was asked to encapsulate the essence of achieving outstanding, it would be a passion for what you do, working as a team, aspiring to high standards, being open to innovation and staying at the cutting edge of new developments.”

Richard Key, Director, added: “Working hard, caring about what you do and doing it with passion is essential.”

The management team said it was vital that owners and senior managers shared the same vision and drove it forward in unison.

“Owners must want to have, not only a regular physical presence, but also be involved in developing strategies and supporting improvement and progress,” they said.

The team pinpointed strong leadership and high quality, committed staff as essential to becoming a centre of excellence and achieving outstanding.

“The culture and ethos of the home filters down from the top and leaders need to be aware that their attitude and approach will be a role model for all staff,” they added.

Value based recruitment was identified as key, combined with the continual support and regular supervision of staff.

The care provider also identified the need to be open new ideas and care programme as crucial.

Ebury Court has developed its own Namaste Care sensory stimulation programme for those with end stage dementia as well as ‘The Lavender Club’, which offers cognitive stimulation therapy for those with mild to moderate dementia.
