New Care seeks to allay concerns over Cheshire care centre

Care home developer New Care has sought to address local concerns over a new care centre in Hartford, Northwich.
The care home company has released further details for the proposal following concerns over the scale of the proposal and its potential impact on traffic and parking.
New Care CEO, Chris McGoff, said: “We understand that there have been some queries about the proposals and are happy to answer questions that local people may have. We invest a great deal of time in the development of our homes to ensure that they enhance the local street scene and complement the local vernacular and give careful consideration to the overall size of the building, staffing and traffic implications to ensure that we exceed the required standards.
“We are very happy to share the plans for the proposed development in Hartford with any interested members of the local community. It has always been our policy to build our care facilities in the heart of local communities so the elderly and infirm can continue to live and play an inclusive role in the wider community that has always been their home and we look forward to bringing one of our award winning care facilities to Hartford.”
The 70-bed home’s facilities will include en-suite wet rooms, spa-assisted bathrooms and a hair salon and nail bar.
Associate director at infrastructure experts SCP Transport, Gemma Wheatley, who has evaluated some of the concerns about traffic, added: “With around 27 members of staff on site at one time, a number that reduces at the weekend, there is likely to be a maximum of 10 trips by car generated even in the busiest hours. However, studies of previous New Care developments have proven that around 50% of staff typically drive to site with the remainder walking, cycling or using public transport as they usually live nearby.
“The proposed car parking of 28 spaces is very generous and exceeds council requirements. Cheshire West parking standards only require 18 spaces, meaning that at least half the car park will be available for visitors at all times while leaving ample space for refuse vehicles, deliveries and ambulances to turn. Accessibility is also not an issue; the site is very well connected with bus and train services up to every 30 minutes less than 600m away.”
A New Care proposal in Cheshire East was refused planning permission earlier this year due to concerns over its scale and the underprovision of parking.
