Elderly residents have been told that Abbeyfield West Herts Society’s Tannerswood assisted living facility in Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire will close within 30 days.
The nine residents were told in a letter that the service would have to close due to the costs required to meet safety and “other works” requirements, the Watford Observer reported.
An Abbeyfield spokesperson said: “After careful consideration The Abbeyfield West Herts Society has arrived at the difficult decision to close Tannerswood House. Abbeyfield West Herts has been advised that the current building has some health and safety concerns that have led to this decision to close.

“The welfare of those who live with us is always priority and as such, we will endeavour to help all residents to relocate before official closure of the home. We are also supporting our staff to help them find suitable alternative employment, wherever possible, in an effort to avoid redundancy.
“This is a sad time for all of us at The Abbeyfield West Herts Society. The staff, residents and their families at the house, have been informed of this decision and Abbeyfield staff will be on hand to help and support each resident throughout the closure process.”
The charity said it would seek to rehouse the nine residents in other Abbeyfield homes within a ten-mile radius of Tannerswood.
A Three Rivers District Council spokesperson told CHP: “Three Rivers District Council are aware the accommodation is closing down and that the residents have been served with notice.
“We understand that Abbeyfield are providing all effected residents with alternative permanent accommodation in the Abbots and Kings Langley locality.
“If any residents approach the council for housing assistance, we will of course work with them.”
