Belong has awarded a £15.7m contract for a state of the art dementia care village to north west construction and property specialist, Pochin’s.
The four-storey development in Chester, which is expected to open in spring 2020, will include six households with 12 suites and will provide 24-hour specialist dementia and nursing care. The village will also include 23 one- and two-bedroom independent living apartments to rent or buy.
Tracy Paine, Deputy Chief Executive for Belong, said: “We are delighted to be working once again with Pochin’s and pleased that we are now a step closer to contributing to the provision of quality services for people living with dementia in Chester. We have a number of exciting plans for the development and believe the city centre location will contribute to the creation of a vibrant community that is easily accessible to all.”

Designed by architects, Pozzoni, to incorporate dementia-friendly principles, the village will boast a hub of facilities, including a gym, bistro, hair salon and therapy rooms, which all will be open to the general public. The new village will also offer a specialist day care service and the organisation’s award-winning home care service, Belong at Home.
Pochin’s Ltd CEO Jim Nicholson said: “We have developed a strong working relationship with Belong, having completed their village in Newcastle-under-Lyme last year, and are delighted to be supporting them to bring their high quality dementia care model to Chester. It comes on the back of numerous retail projects we’ve completed here in recent years, and it’s pleasing that we will be continuing to contribute to the city’s offering on a number of fronts.”
Belong currently operates seven villages in the north west and another new site in Birkdale, Southport is also currently under construction, with Pochin’s as the main contractor, scheduled to open in Autumn 2019.
