Blackadder ‘goes forth’ with nursing home acquisitions

Family run care operator Blackadder Corporation is to investing more than £1m in renovating two nursing homes recently added to its portfolio.
The acquisitions of the homes in Northleach in the Cotswolds and Holmer near Hereford, which will potentially create 30 jobs, follows the company’s policy of acquiring and renovating existing properties rather than working with new builds.
Geoff Butcher, director, said: “We are pleased to be expanding our portfolio and believe we have found two perfect properties to transform into top of the range care homes.
“We don’t like to work with new builds, we find that they lack the character and the comfort that a building with some history can bring and we believe this really makes a positive impact for residents.
“This marks another step forward in what has been a number of consecutive years of growth for us.
“Since 2013 we have really stepped up our investment in the care sector and that has allowed us to really establish a grip on this corner of the market and build a portfolio of homes that fit our ethos.
“These latest additions allow us to continue to offer our great service from unique properties, enabling the best care for our residents.”
The company, formed in 1997, now owns six care homes following the double deal, with the largest independent Midlands law firm Wright Hassall acting for Blackadder on the transactions, led by Robert Lee, Head of the Corporate Group and assisted by Jeremy Hyde, an Associate in the corporate team.
Robert Lee, of Wright Hassall, said: “Having worked with Blackadder Care Homes since 2000 it is clear that this double deal represents the start of an exciting new era for the company.
“It sees the company expand into new areas, creating jobs and investing in transforming older buildings into places ideal for assisted living.
“We are pleased to continue to work alongside the family team in order to help this process.”
