Boris Johnson insists ‘UK will be ready’ for no-deal Brexit

Boris Johnson has insisted that the UK will “be ready” for a no-deal Brexit, despite a leaked report warning of rising costs to the social care sector.

Speaking to the BBC yesterday, the Prime Minister said he was “confident” the EU would agree to a new Brexit deal, but preparations for a no-deal Brexit are on track.

“I’m not pretending that there won’t be bumps on the road […] but if everybody puts their minds to it, I have absolutely no doubt that we can get ready,” he said.

According to Operation Yellowhammer, the dossier leaked to the Sunday Times, a no-deal Brexit could result in an immediate rise in social care costs, according to leaked government documents.

It is claimed that social care will be vulnerable to rising costs almost instantaneously, with smaller providers being impacted within two to three months of leaving and larger providers being hit after five to six months.

The documents, which had been compiled by the Cabinet Office this month under the codename Operation Yellowhammer, paint a picture of significant disruption across a number of key areas, stating that the country remains unprepared for the effects of no deal.

The file had been marked “official-sensitive” and had required security clearance on a “need to know” basis.
