Burglar who targeted care homes given prison sentence

A burglar who targeted care homes in the Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset region has been sentenced to three years and eight months in jail.

Gary Harford admitted carrying out a number of burglaries including the theft of £160 in cash and bank cards from Jasmine Court nursing home in Park Place and Beach Lawns residential and nursing home in Beach Road, which is operated by Sanctuary Care.

Mr Harford pleaded guilty to burglary, fraud and threatening behaviour in February and March this year, BristolLive reported.

His burglary spree include the theft of bank cards, £80 in cash and a gold ring from Beach Lawns.

One of the bank cards was used to purchase good worth £400 at a local Tesco Braoadway on the same day.

The court heard how Mr Harford went on to make further fraudulent transactions at a Halifax bank a few days after stealing a purse, driving licence, £80 cash and bank cards from Jasmine Court.

In passing sentence, Judge Mark Horton told Mr Harford: “You could be of serious value to yourself and your family.

“You have allowed your life to be blighted by drink and drugs.”
