Care home staff and residents spread Christmas cheer

Care home staff and residents have been spreading Christmas cheer through their fundraising efforts.
Czajka Care Group’s Beanlands Nursing Home raised over £800 for its resident’s fund, £100 of which will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society, while team members from Athena Care Homes’ Aria Court handed over 45 gifts and £207.40 to the homeless charity, Wintercomfort, in Cambridge.
Beanlands Nursing Home raised funds through a special ‘Elf Day’ (pictured) with stalls, tombola, cakes, handmade gifts, games and refreshments.
The home is also selling raffle tickets until Christmas Eve for a chance to win a selection of gifts.
Michelle Sykes, activities co-ordinator at the home, organised the fundraiser with help from registered manager, Janet Fryer, and deputy manager, Denise Jackson.
Denise said: “Everyone at Beanlands worked so hard to make the event a success, and I am very proud of the whole team. Family and friends of staff and residents all contributed to our ‘Elf Day’ and we can’t wait to see the cash put to good use by Alzheimer’s Society.”
The team from Aria Court, meanwhile, has spent the last six weeks organising and collecting suitable items that would fit in a shoebox which were then gift wrapped by staff and residents and handed over to Wintercomfort to distribute to the people they work with. Funds raised from a recent Christmas fete at the care home also went towards gifts to support the campaign.
