Care home with onsite nursery rated Outstanding

An innovative South London care home that was the first in UK to install an onsite nursery has been rated Outstanding by the CQC.

Nightingale Hammerson, which provides for the elderly Jewish community, joined the top 2% of adult social care services following an inspection in May.

The CQC’s inspection report notes the home’s “innovative inter-generational project” which was launched in September 2017 (see First of its kind care home nursery opens).

Children, their parents and older people come together on a daily basis at the nursery to participate in shared activities such as baking, storytelling and singing.

The CQC said: “We received extremely positive comments from people, their relatives and community professionals about this innovative inter-generational project.

“Typical feedback included, ‘I absolutely adore the young children who come to see us every day here. I can’t wait for them to arrive…They make me feel young again’ “.

Debbie Ivanova, CQC’s Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said: “I am always pleased to hear about outstanding care and Nightingale House is clearly a great place to live with caring management and motivated staff.

“I was particularly excited to hear about the intergenerational work and the benefits this has on the people living in the home.”
