Mountfitchet House in Stansted, Essex, has become the seventh Care UK home to achieve CQC ‘outstanding’.

The home, which provides accommodation and nursing for up to 60 elderly people, joined the top 3% of services with the CQC’s highest rating following an inspection in September.

Home manager Allison Squires said: “Here at Mountfitchet House we see beyond a residents’ dementia or frailty, to their personality and spirit. We don’t see obstacles, we see opportunities. Every aspect of life here is tailored to the residents and how they want to be cared for.

“I’m so pleased our continued efforts have been recognised by the CQC’s inspectors. Everyone here is so passionate about improving the quality of residents’ lives, and they work incredibly hard to make a positive difference.

“To be rated ‘outstanding’ shows just how committed the team is and I’m extremely proud of each and every one of them. I would like to say thank you for their hard work and dedication, which I know is also greatly appreciated by residents and their families.”

Inspectors commented on the warm, inviting environment at Mountfitchet House and how the team treated residents with care and respect, having developed a “family culture” within the home.

The CQC praised how well the team members knew the residents and how they were supported as individuals with their personal, spiritual and cultural preferences taken into account.

Inspectors were also complimentary of the home’s decoration and soft furnishings and the way communal areas were themed to reflect residents’ interests, including a library corner and Hollywood wall.

Cabinet member for Health & Adult Social Care, Cllr John Spence, added: “Achieving the best care for the residents of Essex is among the highest priorities of Essex County Council so any outstanding rating for one of our care homes is a cause of celebration. Our warmest congratulations to all involved.”
