Concerns raised over care quality at Runwood Homes’ service

Relatives’ concerns are being investigated over the quality of care at Runwood Homes’ Chelmunds Court in Solihull.

The Solihull Observer reported the concerns covered care quality, staffing levels and training.

A CQC spokesperson said: “Our inspection team are aware of concerns at this service and recently inspected for the first time in June. This report detailing all the findings will be published soon.

“The inspection was a result of the concerns that have been highlighted to us and the local authorities. All complaints/concerns received will have been looked into on the inspection.

“We can’t go into detail about the specific concerns raised but we can confirm there have been several relating to the quality of people’s care. The provider is working closely with commissioners to bring about improvements.”

A Runwood Homes spokesperson said: “As a new facility opened less than a year ago, Chelmunds Court experienced teething problems which in turn led to some concerns being raised.

“In response, we took immediate steps to put a new management structure in place, along with an action plan which has seen the achievement of significant progress.

“We can confirm the correct staff-to-resident ratio is in place and all our staff are appropriately supervised and fully trained to the highest professional standards, thus ensuring all residents receive the very best in safe and effective person-centred care.

“We aim to provide a consistently excellent level of service, working in partnership with residents, families and professionals to ensure high standards of care are maintained.

“We are happy to talk to residents and families at any time and encourage anyone with concerns to raise them directly with the senior team or home manager. We cannot comment on individual cases.”
