Ideal Carehomes has officially opened its £10m, Handley House in York.
The 66-bed home, which was built by sister company, LNT Construction, will provide residential and dementia care, creating 50 jobs.
The home has been named after the former Handley Page RAF aircraft repair station on which it is located. Representatives from the Yorkshire Air Museum were invited to the home’s official launch, along with 94-year-old Dorothy Harrison who worked as a payroll administrator at the base in the 1940s and who now lives at Ideal’s sister-home Ebor Court in York.
General manager Michael Gledhill said: “Handley House is a very special place and its location holds a unique place in history. It’s an absolute privilege to have our very first guests here today and it’s made us even more excited to officially open the doors to the local community at our open house days next week.”
Located on Green Lane in Clifton, Handley House boasts a range of state-of-the-art facilities, including a hair salon, café, cinema, garden lounge and ‘Sky’ bar. It also uses an innovative energy efficient ground-source heating system throughout its 37,000 sq ft site.
