New report highlights untapped potential of assistive technology

A new report by learning disability charity Hft and Tunstall Healthcare has highlighted the untapped potential of assistive technology in social care.

Dr Rhidian Hughes, chief executive of the Voluntary Organisations Disability Group (VODG), said the report offered a timely contribution as the government reviewed its industrial strategy which had so far ignored the disability sector.

“Assistive technology and digital solutions offer an important contribution when developing services for disabled people, not least because they can provide an opportunity for people to have more control over their lives,” Dr Hughes said.

“Hft have produced a timely report which shines an important spotlight on the untapped potential of assistive technology.”

Alongside the launch of the report in the House of Lords, Hft will be leading further discussions on the report’s recommendations at VODG’s annual conference on 9 September.
