Significant improvements found at Runwood Homes service

Significant improvements have been found at a Runwood Homes service that was previously under a police investigation.

Elizabeth House in Hadleigh, Essex, which was previously rated ‘inadequate’, was given a ‘requires improvement’ rating following an inspection in January.

The CQC said: “Significant improvements were noted since our last inspection to Elizabeth House in July 2018. Although people’s comments about the care provided was variable, our observations relating to the level of care people received was much improved.

“The atmosphere within the service was relaxed and calm. Staff told us the support they received from the registered manager and other senior management team members was much better and they were valued and supported. The registered manager and other senior management team members were visible within the service, were clear about their roles and responsibilities and aware that further improvements were still required.”

The home, which provides care for up to 108 elderly people, was subject to a police investigation in July 2018 following the death of two residents. The police dropped their investigation in December having no evidence of criminal neglect.

A Runwood Homes spokesperson said: “We are very pleased to see the external agencies and Care Quality Commission evidence the significant improvements at this service.  The overall improvements have been noted by residents, families and professional visitors.

“The new manager and her team have worked incredibly hard to ensure standards are exceeded and as such the renewed rating forms part of our commitment to see Elizabeth House provide only the highest quality of care as standard. We continue to work to further enhance the CQC rating in the coming months which we are very confident will be realised.”
