Specialist dementia care home achieves CQC Outstanding

Staff and residents are celebrating at Longfield Residential Home in Blackburn after being rated Outstanding by the CQC.

The home, which provides care for up to 24 older people, joins the top 3% of services with the CQC’s top rating.

Director Rajan Jairath said: “I am overwhelmed with the rating received. Outstanding is the only way that I would describe my entire team, they continue to embrace our vision and strategy while we have looked to bring a positive change to the market with new ideas.

“As a specialist dementia care home, we encourage innovation from the whole team. Many of those recognised by the CQC report were envisioned by them. This level of detail reiterates how caring, dedicated and committed the team is in going the extra mile for our residents.”

The CQC said it had raised the home’s rating from Good to Outstanding due to the “excellent way in which the service was led and the commitment from staff to deliver high quality, compassionate care”.

The CQC added: “Our observations throughout the inspection, showed the home was filled with laughter and music and that staff interacted with people in a caring and respectful manner.”

Inspectors highlighted how the registered manager was creative in developing training which encouraged staff to put themselves in the shoes of the people they supported.

Memory books and information about people’s histories was used by staff to engage with them in conversations and promote their sense of well-being.

Group Manager Joanne Mchugh said: “My team continues to push itself to continuously improve in order to offer the best possible standard of care to our wonderful residents. Every day is a new challenge and brings new opportunities to excel. I feel my team goes above and beyond in their care of our residents.”
