Staff and residents are celebrating after Sunrise of Westbourne was rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC.
The service, which provides nursing, dementia care and assisted living services for up to 114 people, became the fourth CQC outstanding Sunrise service with group partner Gracewell having a further two top rated homes.
James Glanville, General Manager at Sunrise of Westbourne, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have received an overall rating of outstanding from the Care Quality Commission, especially as the community was undergoing a refurbishment during the time of inspection. An ethos of providing personalised and attentive care has always been at the core of everything we do, and our team strive to deliver quality care day in day out.

“I am also thrilled to see that we received an outstanding rating in three of the inspection’s key lines of inquiry: caring service, responsive service and well-led service – an exceptional honour. We look forward to many more years of providing high quality care to our brilliant residents and their families.”
The CQC’s report highlighted that “the service was exceptionally caring,” with staff members who are “always kind and considerate and highly motivated to provide people with the best possible experience of living at the home”.
Feedback from residents and their relatives demonstrated the “outstanding care and support” given, with one resident saying: “Sunrise have been amazing at every stage of this process, and we all feel incredibly lucky to have found the right safe spot for mum that nurtures her individuality.”
Additionally, the CQC’s report deemed the leadership of the service to be outstanding. This included efforts of team leaders around “continually striving to improve the service”, through methods such as seeking and considering feedback of service users and staff members. Staff ensured they always gave a “positive response” to any concerns raised, with one relative commenting: “Anything we needed and questions have always been quickly sorted. All staff have been so caring and friendly.”
Joanne Balmer, Senior Director of Care and Quality at Sunrise Senior Living UK, said: “I am so pleased to see Sunrise of Westbourne receive such amazing recognition for the extraordinary care they provide to residents. This rating is testament to the hard work of every single one of the community’s team members and we look forward to seeing what the future holds in store for them as they continue to drive improvement and excellence.”
