TECH TALK: What’s Next for GDPR?

Keeping residents’ records safe for data protection, yet accessible for staff to update, can be a headache. The recent GDPR regulation means you’ve had to increase security on charts, reports and care plans. But you might be finding it harder to balance carers reading and updating that information than before.

It’s important you have confidence that practices and processes for GDPR compliance are in place at your care home. This means – records are secure, GDPR training is delivered, and you’re still able to access information whenever you need it, without systems and processes being overly restrictive.

This also includes all the little questions you might have. What counts as ‘data’ for GDPR? What do you do if a data breach occurs? How would you provide a subject access request? How do you give data access to relatives of residents? What can you provide to CQC, police or other authorities requesting data? What is your role in keeping data safe? It may be that other people deal with some of these things in your organisation, but do you know who?
