In what is believed to be a Warwickshire first, WCS Care has launched a rooftop bowling green at its Castle Brook care home in Kenilworth.
Complete with artificial grass, white picket fencing, mats and traditional woods, the state-of-the-art green sits above one of the home’s main entrances.
Home manager Louise Goode said: “We’re really excited that the rooftop bowling green is now open. It’s certainly created a buzz around the home.

“We have a few bowls players at Castle Brook who’ve been eagerly watching progress, as well as wannabe players who wouldn’t mind giving it a go for the first time.
“We’d like to say thank you to Doreen and her family for the generous donation of the woods, which will go a long way to inspiring future fans of the sport and ensuring seasoned players feel right at home.”
Castle Brook is home to up to 84 older people and includes a shop, deluxe cinema, hair salon, relaxing spa, café, companion cycling and traditional fully-staffed launderette.
Residents welcomed friends, family, and neighbours to the event on Thursday 5 July 2018 to mark the launch of the new rooftop bowling green, designed to encourage people to spend time outdoors which can have a range of benefits linked to sunlight, exercise, and fresh air.
Resident and keen bowls player Doreen Webb said: “It’s fantastic to be able to play my favourite game in my home and be able to share the experience with my friends and family, whatever the weather!”
