Worthing care home rated Outstanding in all five categories

A Worthing care home has maintained its Outstanding rating, this time achieving the CQC’s top rating in all five categories.

The Shelley, which cares for up to 32 people with a variety of health and support needs, was inspected by the CQC in February.

Owner and care provider Marlene Sanders said: “As a single, independent care home The Shelley has always had the scope and ability to try out new things and constantly adapt. If we read about something new or innovative we are always able to implement it instantly.

“Long before the corporate sector implemented coffee machines, kitchens for residents and hairdressing salons we had implemented all of these on opening 12 years ago. Today we continue to innovate with use of technology with e-mar medication, on-line care planning system, DOCOB (remote resident monitoring system), Wifi throughout the home, iPads for residents use as well as experimenting with virtual reality headsets as part of the activities programme.”

The CQC report highlighted the excellent support that the residents received noting the homely family atmosphere, the superb food and facilities, extensive entertainment and social activities, excellent care and very high staff level and employee morale.

Joyce Waterfield, who has been at The Shelley for three years, said: “It’s the place to be if you’re a 90 year ‘old gal’ like me! Lots of friends and fun and happy laughter – it’s a happy ever after!”

Home manager Nada Wakeford added: “It is the residents themselves who are at the heart of the home, and getting to know each and every one of them, and find ways to make their life happier and more fulfilling is a key part of what we do.  It is truly the little things that add up to make a huge difference to our residents. The Shelley believes in continuous and never ending improvement investing heavily in staff training, technology, the homes decor and environment.”
